Born and raised in Miami, FL, Katalina earned her Bachelor of Health Science in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from the University of Florida. She went on to receive her Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology from Florida International University. Her younger sister with Down syndrome played a big role in her love for Speech-Language Pathology, having been around the field since she was 10 years old. While studying for her Bachelor’s degree, she served as a research assistant to the director of Programs for Speech-Language Pathology. The research focused on Van Riper’s Stuttering Modification Therapy. Over the years, she has volunteered with young adults with Down syndrome, helping them increase their functional communication skills through different activities. During her time in graduate school, she treated and evaluated children with communication disorders in school and clinical settings. Katalina also interned at a skilled nursing facility, where she educated elderly patients, caregivers, and staff on dysphagia compensatory strategies and safe swallowing techniques. She is completing her Clinical Fellowship at Design Therapy of Miami and is excited to work with clients who will benefit from speech and language therapy, just as her sister did.
